How do I create a new smart list?

Whether you're offering a special birthday discount or promoting your referral program to your biggest fans, Frederick's Smart Lists allow you to target clients based on data we've imported from your booking management system. Plus, Smart Lists will automatically update as your clients meet the criteria so you won't have to worry about manually adding contacts. 

We've already populated your account with some Smart Lists which we thought you might find useful, but you can also create your own if you don't see one that meets your needs.

Defining your list

To start building your Smart List, go to the Contact Lists page ( Contacts > Contact Lists ). On that page, click on the "+" button in the upper left corner and select Create Smart List.


You should see the Smart List builder appear on the right side of the screen. There are three parts to consider when building your list criteria: field name, operator, and value. 

Field Name - This is the criteria you will use to filter your client list. Examples: "Gender", "Zip Code", or "Email Promotion Subscribed". 

Operator - This is the relationship between the Field Name you selected and the Value. Examples: "is equal to", "is greater than", or "is blank". 

Value - This is the value of the Field Name you select, to indicate whether or not the customer belongs on this list or not. The Value will depend on what you select for the Field Name. For example, if the Field Name you selected was "Email Promotion Subscribed" the Values would either be "True" or "False". If the Field you selected was "Most Recent Feedback Score", the Value would be a number from 1-10.

Let's say I wanted to create a list of all clients from the state of California. I would build a Smart list using the parameters below:

Field Name: "State or Province"
Operator: "is equal to"
Value: "CA"


You can drill-down even further by adding more than one filter.  By using additional filters, I can target clients in California with specific zip codes.




After you've finished editing the criteria for your list, click the "Add" button. You will then be given the option to name your list, and Save it. 

Using your Smart List

Once the list is saved, it will appear in the Smart Lists section of your Contacts page. You'll be given the option to select your list when using the Scheduled Campaigns or Automations tool.
